Inspiration for Invite Health

Creation starts with inspiration.

Take a guess:

How many newsletters did I take inspiration from in the creation of Invite Health?

The answer:

Seven.

And these are just the ones that come to mind right now- the number is probably a lot higher.

Garden of Inspiration

Highlighting the seven newsletters that inspired the creation of Invite Health- from the newsletter format to the interview questions. Take a scroll through the ‘Garden of Inspiration’.

Out-of-Pocket, by Nikhil Krishnan

  • Clever name

  • The idea of making healthcare information digestible through memes and plain English summaries

  • One of the first newsletters I read that inspired the creation of Invite Health

    • Initially, I actually wanted Invite Health to be a similar platform to Out of Pocket, by having a newsletter + job board

Design Buddies Newsletter, by Design Buddies

  • Inspired the format for the “About Invite Health” section

  • Newsletters have clear flow with headings

  • List of events at the end

While I Build This, by Matthew Taksa

  • Inspired the addition of polls in recent Invite Health newsletters

    • A simple and effective way to engage with your audience

  • The three-point summary at the beginning of the newsletter

    • Gives people an idea of what they are about to read → inspired the copywriting on Invite Health’s LinkedIn recent posts

  • Reading time is advertised as 5 minutes or less

Health Tech Pigeon, by SomX

  • Overall format and flow → like the use of lists / emoji bullet points

  • Inspired the “Opportunity Roundup” section of Invite Health

    • Their copywriting is also enjoyable to read → casual, not too professional

  • Reading time is advertised as a “one minute read”

What the Health, by Emily Casey

  • List of events at the beginning of the newsletter

  • Summary of health events & news

  • Use of images, GIFs, memes

    • Helps with engagement throughout the newsletter

The Peak, by The Peak

  • Bullet-point list format + boxes for flow and organization

  • Focus on sharing headlines / one-liners rather than diving into detail

    • Readers grasp the important takeaway, and can choose to explore further detail if they are interested (through hyperlinks)

    • Also, their inclusion of prompts such as “driving the news” and “why it matters” helps with reader understanding and flow

  • Referral rewards program

    • Great incentive for readers + helps the newsletter grow

BackScoop, by BackScoop

  • Similar format to The Peak: bullet points, summary at the beginning, prompts to guide readers

  • Their ‘Ice Breakers’ series as a whole

    • I also love that they’re consistent in asking every interviewee what their favourite ice cream flavour is (aligns with the brand name!)

    • The ‘Ice Breakers’ series are quick & easy to read

  • My favourite interview questions by BackScoop:

    • How would you explain your job to someone outside tech?

    • What has been the biggest highlight of your career so far?

    • What's one thing you can keep talking about for hours?

The Inspiration(s) → The Creation

Creation starts with inspiration.

One of the philosophies that Invite Health is built on is that inspiration is everywhere. This philosophy is evident when you read the interviews on Invite Health, as they’re designed to inspire readers to learn about opportunities in health and healthcare.

And after reading this, you know that this philosophy was also prevalent in the creation of Invite Health.

About Invite Health 💌

Invite Health newsletters highlight students pursuing careers in healthcare, and the experiential learning opportunities they've had. Invite Health can also be the start of building a network, learning a new skill, or finding your next opportunity.

How can you get the most out of Invite Health? 🫶

  1. Send cold messages. Reach out to the people who were interviewed when you’re interested in learning more about their journey. At the end of each newsletter, all interviewees leave their contact information for readers to contact them!

  2. Share Invite Health with your friends and networks. Get a conversation going about something new you learned- whether it’s an opportunity, a piece of advice, or a recommendation that an interviewee made.

  3. Apply to the opportunities that are shared in the newsletters! You have nothing to lose, and so much to gain. And circling back to point #1 - always reach out to the interviewees if you want advice from them!
